Hi,
I just installed Windows Vista Beta 2 Ultimate Edition, everything is working fine but I am not able to find the option to load up Glass. I am wondering if this is due that I dont have proper display drivers for my M400. The tablet is packed with a Intel 965GM Graphic Card (I know not the most fancy card).
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this matter.
Thanks alot,
G.

Vista Beta 2 Ultimate Edition w/o Glass?
To get AERO Glass, your video card needs to support the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM), with a minimum of 64-MBs vRAM. If its shared system memory, it needs to be configured with a minimum of 1 GB dual channel memory, with 512 MBs going to OS.
The Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 on both the Intel® 945G and Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipsets will support the Windows Vista Display Driver model (WDDM) drivers.

I guess the key word for now is that they "will". I guess I got no choice to wait :(

What's real interesting about this is that the new Core Duo Apple notebooks (MacBook with the 950 graphics, MacBook Pro with the ATI X1600) may actually be among the best mobiles for running the new microsoft operating system.

Maybe but there is not support from Intel. Intel once again being too lazy to code some decent drivers.

Maybe they are just not ready with the drivers. It's frustrating for all of us but I'd rather they took their time and did it "right".
I doubt laziness is the reason for the delay. It wasn't until fairly late on in the Windows XP beta cycle when lots of manufacturers started to get their act together for drivers there. What with the new driver structure and the changing spec of the product it isn't much of a push to see a company decide to wait until things are clear before starting work on code.

I think ATI do them don't they? The Pro uses the ATI X1600 - should be good to go already.
When Intel get around to the 950 drivers the MacBook non-pro should do fine too. Just got one of these the other day in fact, it's one sweet machine. I'm waiting for a memory upgrade I have on order before I install Windows of any kind on it though.

Yes, ATI is doing the graphics for most of the Intel Macs now, the PPC ones used a combination of nVidia and ATI. Yep, the ATI drivers are definitely available for the Radeon Mobility X1600, so AERO Glass should work just fine on the MacBook Pro. Just that getting Vista installed on it is gonna be hurdle and might not be supported until Apple bundles Boot Camp in OS 10.5 as an incentive upgrade. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I got glass on vista beta 2 to work well on a macbook (with 1gb of dual channel). The glass actually worked really well. The OS actually /seemed/ faster with glass enabled. The driver i was using is pre-beta so it had worse side effects (cant come back from sleep/hibernate) so i am going without for now. Basically...it looks like the driver is on its way...and when it comes it will shine with the 950.

Glass works fine if you just install the Intel Lakeport drivers.
For detailed directions, see:
http://slashstar.com/blogs/alex/archive/2006/06/13/M400VistaBeta2AeroGlassGMA950.aspx
The trick is to UN-check "Show compatible hardware" and manually select the Intel Lakeport drivers. By default you'll just get the GMA 950 drivers which don't support Glass in Beta 2. Those instructions should work for anything that has an Intel GMA 950 (including Toshiba M400 and MacBook). There is a memory requirement because the display adapter steals system RAM; not sure if you need 512 MB or 1 GB.
There is some confusion about this but it DOES work. See also:

Too stupid for a beta OS.
When you help someone like this they will just be back in a few more days with more stupid question.
This group is being flooded with moronic questions: How do I get a product key Where do I get a driver for xyz hardware Won't install on my lapotop Won't install on my computer circa 1968 My crappy video card won't run aero glass (the sky is falling) My crappy sound card doesn't work Can't figure out how to activate Will my 16 bit program from 1992 run on Vista How long can I use Vista Beta How do I dual boot I NEED STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO GET XP BACK cannot delete windows.old file
Ignore them, children should only listen to adult conversations, not be incouraged to join in.
